Amy Becker-Burnett directs grungy ‘Halloween’ video for Matilda Cole produced by Sticker Studios

Amy Becker-Burnett has directed a new grunge inspired music video for singer Matilda Cole titled ‘Halloween’. The video, heavily inspired by the era of the late 90’s and early 2000’s and its teen party aesthetic, is a vision that is both dark and fascinating, and was produced by the fresh and visually exciting production house Sticker Studios.

Taking place at a party in her home, the visual shows an emotionally affected Matilda dressed in angelic themed Halloween costume gear, leaving her dimly lit yet well dressed bedroom to engage with the party antics that are happening below her.

The visual tends to strike the perfect balance between dark and innocent, which greatly compliments the song and artist but also allows the darker elements to stand out in contrast to the soft fluorescent colouring and light hearted, stylish performances of the party guests. It feels very much like a scene that could be found in Mean Girls, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, The Craft, or Ginger Snaps.

Amy explained, “The idea was to create a sort of grungy teen house party reminiscent of the late 90’s early/ 2000, something which feels very nostalgic to me personally and also relevant to Matilda’s aesthetic. I’ve loved building up a relationship with Matilda and helping develop a look for her through the videos we’ve made. Here we see her isolated from the party, detached from the chaos as the scenario unfolds in reverse.”

Amy captured the teenage coming of experience in a uniquely engaging way in this video, and displays a strong visual intuition, which will be interesting to watch develop.
